Lions Club donates to flood victims

The Lions Club of Blantyre on Sunday donated assorted items worth K1.8 million (about $10 778) to over 500 flood victims in Nsanje North.

The donation included 3 000 boxes of medical drugs such as paracetamol, 822 boxes of LA-DS Anti-malarial, 834 cartons of Water Guard for cholera prevention and 100 rolls of plastic black sheets

The floods happened three months ago after Ruo River flooded Osiyana, Alfazema, Khambadza, Sambani, Makhapa and Lalonga areas rendering  6 000 people homeless and washing away  their crops.

Speaking at Mbwazi in Nsanje North, Lions Club of Blantyre president Leonardo Vigna said they provided medical relief support after observing that other well-wishers did not donate drugs.

“The Lions Club of Blantyre was instrumental in requesting the Lions Club International for a grant to assist the victims of the floods in Nsanje. Fortunately, our request was granted; hence, our coming here to donate to our brother and sisters,” said Vigna.

He said the medicine have since been handed over to Nsanje District Health Office for security and safety reasons.

Traditional Authority Mulolo thanked the club for the assistance, saying many people are still in need of medical drugs and other basic needs.
