Mzuzu Lions Club on Saturday donated goods worth K500 000 (about $759) to inmates at Mzuzu Prison. According to club president Victor Gondwe, they hope the items, including foodstuffs and soap, will help lessen the hardship of the confined community, especially women and children.
Among the recipients were two women with children whom Gondwe described as innocent beings serving a jail sentence having committed no crime.
Mzuzu Prison officer-in-charge Herrings Nyalubwe said the presents will go a long way to make inmates’ lives better at a time a mix of underfunding with breakdown of pots have pushed the prison to start according the incarcerated community one meal a day instead of three.
