Last season’s Central Region FMB Under-20 runners-up, Hungry Lions, have started the second round on a brighter note as they are topping the table with a 12-point gap.

Lions beat new entrants Mantour 2-0 on Saturday to take their tally to 52 points. They are trailed by Hard Knockers, who beat Atals 7-1 on the same day.

Young Dynamos are third with 39 points whereas defending champions Deveyo, (formerly Green Rangers) are fourth.

Meanwhile, the league’s organising committee chairperson Victor Longwe has said the they have finished screening players to make sure that they are within the required age limit.

“We consulted both the parents and the players’ schools. In other cases, we also visited hospitals for verification. Now, we have a data base and identity cards for all the players in the league,” said Longwe.

The leagues in the South and North are yet to start their second round games.

“We are finalising a few issues in the South and North and dates for commencing the second round will be communicated soon,” said National Youth Football Committee (NYFC) general secretary Alfred Lungu.

The FMB league is played in the regions and best teams from the regions face each other in the national finals.
