A project that strives to establish musicians as stars in their own right was established in the country courtesy of Mawu Productions.
Known as Live Experience, the project seeks to dwell on developing individual music stars that can command an audience of their own and nurture a professional music career.
Director of Mawu Productions, Yamikani Kalizang’oma aka DJ Kali, described Live Experience Project as the dawn of new era for creating music greats from Malawi.

Kalizang’oma: We want to turn Malawians artists into influential icons
Kalizang’oma said: “Basically, this project is to do with artist development who can build a sound audience and reliable career of their own as individual artists. We want to turn Malawians artists into influential icons who can command respect on their own and be called artists for real substance.”
For a long time, Malawian musicians have been performing as a team, denying the audience to appreciate their talent as individuals. Gospel shows in particular have been accompanying a big band to venues such as Robin’s Park, Sheaffer Marquee, Boa Park and Blantyre Cultural Centre.
But Kalizang’oma said time has come to build individual music stars through the concept of Live Experience, which entails professional attributes ranging from sound engineering to equipment that will give people an opportunity to appreciate artists’ profound talent through live performances and physical interaction.
Kalizango’oma said: “Building music capacity of individual artists from Malawi is the gap that Mawu Productions seeks to bridge. Most artists were fond of performing as a band, relying on the strength of others. But now want them to impress on their own.”
The Live Experience kick-starts with Lawi and the Mango Band at Chichiri Shopping Centre’s M-Theatre on November 29.
Said Kalizang’oma: “The Live Experience with Lawi and the Mango Band will allow patrons to appreciate the musician’s everything right from career history and personal life plus autographs.” 
