Liwonde hosts National Amateur Boxing Championship
The 2016 National Amateur Boxing Championship will take place at Sun Village in Liwonde from April 15 to 17.
At least 32 amateur boxers will take part in the competition. Ten of them are from the Northern Region whereas the Central and Southern regions will be represented by 11 boxers each.
The competition is sponsored by Malawi Amateur Boxing Association (Maba) to the tune of K1.3 million.
According to Mapa acting general secretary Elia Banda, the tournament will identify boxers who will represent the country at international tournaments.
“As of now we are yet to come up with specific prizes for the top two winners in each category. But boxers should be assured that they will be provided with meals, transport and accommodation,” he said.
Maba Northern Region chapter chairperson Stewart Moyo said they have selected good boxers for the national tournament.n
