Some local coaches have asked FAM to invite coaches to brainstorm on what the Flames should do to win against Nigeria in September.

Former Flames coach Yasin Osman, Silver Strikers trainer Franco Ndawa and SureStream Academy coach Patrick Kulemeka said on Wednesday that there is need for collective effort if the Flames are to sail through to the global soccer event.

“The new coach [Tom Saintfiet] has little knowledge about our players and he has little time to improve their performance. We might be seen as nonentities, but we have something essential to share with the current technical panel as we know the problems of our local players better,” said Osman.

Ndawa agreed with Osman that there is a need of diverse opinions on how to approach the away game, which is a must-win for the Flames.

“Through that meeting, we can give our input on the kind players required for such a vital encounter,” he said.

According to Kulemeka, the indaba should emphasise on how the Flames can avoid conceding and at the same time defending late goals as had been the case in previous matches.

“If you have noted, our main problem is failing to defend our goals in the dying minutes of the game. We need to dwell much on that,” Kulemeka said.

FAM president Walter Nyamilandu welcomed the suggestion for the indaba, saying they would do that after the Cosafa Tournament.

“We have really reached a critical stage where we need inputs from other stakeholders. We are just one game away to the World Cup and such suggestions are welcome. Our new coach will indeed rely on the experience of local coaches. Let us have that indaba after the Cosafa Cup,” said Nyamilandu.
