Loverbirds fly to Likoma Saturday

At least 42 lovebirds are set for a red-heart flight from Blantyre to Likoma Island on Saturday.

Dubbed ‘Flight Red Rose The Lovebird’, the trip organised by Shire Events and Tours marks the end of a romantic week epitomised by Valentine’s Day on Tuesday.

About 30 of the return air tickets, worth K65 000 (about $389) each, had been sold by Wednesday, said Darlington Ndasauka of the organising agency. The agent said the sale would continue by Friday if the remaining seats remain vacant.

“We are now confirming those who booked in advance. Where others are withdrawing, we may consider those that were put on pending list,” said Ndasauka.

He added the response discredits the notion that holds Malawians allergic to travelling and sightseeing. He feels many fail to visit the country’s attractions largely because they do not have disposable money.

The chartered aircraft is expected to leave at 7.10am from Blantyre via Lilongwe and return 6pm, giving the couples about 12 hours of air, island and water excursion full of red hearts.

When the Air Malawi ATR 42 lands on the country’s Bahamas, the patrons will tour historic sites, sample traditional dances, dine and wine together.
