Central Region Volleyball League (CRVL) big guns such as champions Kamuzu Barracks and Blue Eagles are set to clash this Saturday in a bonanza organised by Ls’ Burg Sports and Leisure Zone.
The event is part of the many sports activities, including pool, darts and tug-of-war that have been lined up.
Ls’ Burg Sports and Leisure Zone boasts of a beach volleyball court, a state-of-the-art pool stadium and a darts component.
“The competitions will be happening every fortnight. The objective is to promote sports in the country. There are few places in Lilongwe that have such facilities.
“We want to turn this place into a sports haven that can even host international competitions,” Tagonjetsa said Chiwaya, the facility’s owner.
He said prizes for winners range from cash to live goats in all the three categories, volleyball, pool and darts.
Chiwaya also announced that in future, they plan to organise boxing and body building competitions.
“It is about family entertainment. We want people to come with their families and friends and watch or even participate in indoor sports. The place is open to all sports associations who want to use these facilities,” he said.
CRVL chairperson MacGoodwin Mangani thanked Chiwaya for organising the tournament.
“We have few volleyball tournaments in the region and this is welcome news. Teams will now be more motivated as they stand to get something,” he said.
