LTAM names final Zone V1 squad

The Lawn Tennis Association of Malawi (LTAM) has released names of the final squad for Zone V1 Games slated for December in Lusaka, Zambia.

The players were selected upon completion of the games’ initial camp training at Sports Council last Saturday.

The camp training accommodated at least 100 athletes from football, netball, basketball, athletics, boxing, judo, swimming and lawn tennis.

According to LTAM coach Hackson M’methiwa, they have named players, including South Africa-based Chisomo Lumeta, who could not come for the week-long camp training due to his busy schedule at the High Performance Centre (HPC).

The camp training had six tennis players, but only Aggrey Chidothi, Mary Luhanga and Prisca Maloya have made it. The two girls won bronze during last year’s games in Swaziland.

“As we will be going for the final camp training in October, these are the names we will be dealing with to hunt for gold in Zambia,” said M’methiwa.

He said Patricia Matola, who won gold during the 2009 event, is left out this year because she is no longer in the required under-20 bracket.
