Veteran secular musician Lucius Banda continues to pile his shelf with new albums. Apart from The Best of Lucius Banda, which is set to be released next month, the musician says he is already working on his 18th album to be released at the end of the year.

From his first album Son of a Poor Man to his last Time, the releases show the Balaka-bred artist values time when composing songs as he sings about the current events.

As Malawi celebrates 50 years of independence, Lucius is on it and says the new album centres on the independence theme.

“I have two albums for my fans and the first will be The Best of Lucius Banda whose objective is to remind and inform those that were not there of the best hits in my 17 albums. But the public enjoys new things so I will add on their shelves a new album to be released in November,” he said.

The self-styled Soldier said the songs in the new album are ready and he is currently working on them to ensure they are ready by June.

He said the songs come in a celebratory mood and preach about courage and hardwork, apart from other issues that define life in Malawi at the moment.

“Malawi is in a political and economic mess, but still there is a lot we should celebrate about, and that is life and the natural resources the country is blessed with.

“It is not too late to achieve development and that is my message in the album. We should not give up,” said Lucius, adding that he will announce the title of the album in due course.

Meanwhile, the artist has said the release of the album will be different as he will utilise online sales.

He said the first two songs will be available online from June after which he will release two songs each month.
