Lucius abortion song empty noise—Trapence

Listen to this article

Lucius Banda’s new song, Tigwirane manja, is just ‘empty noise’, a minority rights activist has declared.

Gift Trapence, executive director for the Centre for Development of People (Cedep), has further rapped the song, saying “it only deepens victimisation of women”.

Lucius: Abortion is murder, same-sex marriages, a sin

Trapence made the comment yesterday after listening to the song which Lucius released Monday night.

In the song, which declares abortion as murder and same sex marriage a sin, Lucius calls on Malawians to unite and reject such things.

He argues, in the song, that life has a beginning and destroying that beginning is killing.

You are a murderer, a killer and a thug if you abort, he sings.

Trapence: The song only achieves vicitmisation of women

On same-sex marriage, Lucius, who recently cancelled a show in Mangochi when he saw two men kissing in the audience, says God gave Eve, a woman, to Adam, not James.

However, Trapence feels Lucius’ song does not address issues at hand.  He says he is only skirting around key issues on unsafe abortion and homosexuality.

He challenged that women are losing life because of unsafe abortion, adding: “government is losing millions to post-abortion care services due to increased cases of unsafe abortion.”

Further, Trapence added that none in Malawi is advancing legalisation of same-sex marriage.

All what we want, he noted, is to ensure that there is no discrimination against people with different sexual orientations.

“These are issues we need a solution for. Unfortunately, he [Lucius] has chosen to be a part of the problem. It is quite disturbing that we have a member of Parliament [MP]  who is this ignorant,” he said.

He has since advised Lucius to visit one of the hospitals in the country, meet with medical doctors and appreciate the challenge of unsafe abortion in the country.

However, true to his song, Lucius, who admitted to have read the Termination of Pregancy Bill and he is aware that it might be coming to Parliament, told The Nation he chose to speak out in public because he is an artist who always speaks for the people.

“Abortion and same-sex marriages are against my musical belief. Life is saCred and important. Humans have are yet to come to a point where they can take it away. That is God’s duty,” he said.

He has since vowed to influence fellow MPs to rise up against the Bill, promising: “This Bill will not see the light of the day.”

If it does, however, Lucius said he will be happy that posterity will see him as somebody who rose up against it.

  1. And this man is an MP? May god protect Malawi. By the way he talks, Lucius seems to be an utter ignorant. If he left the comfortable parliament bulding and actually spoke to women who had to undergo unsafe abortion he may start understanding the issue. As per homosexuality, Lucius arguments are so shallow and lame that even a primary school kid could reason in a better way and form better arguments. What he doesn’t even know is that those homosexuals he hates so much, are living all around him and he has gay and lesbians friends. Lucious dont’ know this because these friends cannot be themselves and tell who they are openly because of ignorant and judmental people like Lucius. Dear Lucius, instead of using your music to instill hatred and division, please, make yourself a favour and work on uniting your country and sharing love. Lucius, may God heal your cold, bitter and hateful heart. May God forgive the hate you have for your fellow Malawians brothers and sisters.

  3. Love Lucius sentiments. Support the views. If they continue what they are doing these rights groups, they will see. They will be staying in Malawi as if they are sitting on fire. That we can tell them. After all, they are small in numbers. We know your offices of homes. Just wait, you will see

  4. Gift trapence is talking about abortion because his mother did not abort him. imagine if your mother aborted you trapence. You are supposed to think about yourself before you doubt how others think.
