Lulu relaunches career Saturday

Malawi’s Afro-soul singer Lawrence ‘Lulu’ Khwisa, relaunches his music career with a show at Chameleon in Lilongwe on Saturday.

The show, according to the artist, also defines the kind of music he will be doing, 10 years after he launched his career in 2005.

“I used to play music as a hobby and not a career. A couple of times I felt like giving up as I was torn between two beautiful worlds—music and soccer. From now onwards, I am concentrating on music full throttle thus, production and performances. I want to be defined by the kind of music I will be doing from now onwards,” said the artist.

At the show, Lulu will sell out a special CD of a compilation of his songs based on what he likes and the choice of his fans.

“The CD will contain a new song that defines the kind of music I will be doing. Even the performance I will give out that day, will tell people that I am more mature than ever before. I will connect some of my songs that have a similar meaning to come up with a medley just to give my fans maximum pleasure,” he said.

The Lilongwe-based musician has four albums to his credit.

His first album was Mbambande in 2005, Kumalembe in 2008, Sindilora in 2011 and in 2013 Ndakudziwa, as well as several singles.

Ndakudziwa remains his best, according to Lulu.

“It’s not that other albums were bad in terms of content, but Ndakudziwa stands out for me production wise. I released this album after travelling a lot and I have worked with different legendary producers including Erik Paliani and that resulted in me learning a lot in production,” he explained.

With a fifth album in the offing, Lulu now takes himself as an artist who is well matured in music.
