Lumeta’s exploits in GCSE syllabus

Lawn tennis star Chisomo Lumeta’s exploits will now be read by General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) students worldwide in physical education (PE).

According to Lawn Tennis Association of Malawi (Ltam) president Francis Mwansa, International Tennis Federation (ITF) informed them a few weeks ago that the 15-year-old’s profile and the way he handles his body during matches were included in the PE book which was designed last December.

“They said he is the only tennis player used for the project because he has unique skills worth being studied by the GCSE students. They said Lumeta uses perfect motion to generate maximum speed and power during matches,” said Mwansa.

He, however, said the lad, who is currently under the ITF scholarship at the High Performance Centre (HPC) in Morocco, will start receiving royalties from the deal after he turns professional at the age of 18.

Lumeta has made great strides on the world lawn tennis arena where he has perfected his ranking from position 1 000 in 2012 to his current position, 349.

Just last week, he emerged as the only African player out of the continent’s 28 ambassadors to reach the round of 32 during the Mediterranee Avenir Championships in Casablanca, Morocco.

Recently, he won gold at the Southern African Junior Circuit Championships in the Under-16 singles in Botswana.

He has been at the HPC since 2009 when he won the ITF scholarship following his success during the Southern African Junior Circuit Championships in South Africa.
