Karonga-based Lusubilo Band along with Ulimba musicians from Nsanje have completed a tour of Germany where they held three shows together with that country’s Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra (Ameo).

Lusubilo Band’s founder Professor Agnes Chungja said the three groups performed in Dresden on October 27, Berlin on October 29 and Frankfurt on October 30, describing the tour as a success.

She said: “The tickets were already sold out everywhere we went and the audiences were so impressed by Malawian music. They like the music so much and gave the standing ovation to the musicians.

“It was really a very exciting atmosphere in the concert hall. The German audience was dancing with the Lusubilo Band. It was great and a special experience for all. We give thanks and glory to God that we made people happy according to our mission statement.”

Chungja said the Malawian musicians are expected to leave yesterday.

The tour was part of a collaborative project dubbed What Boundaries? which is supported by the German Federal Cultural Foundation.

The project seeks to combine Malawi’s traditional music with international jazz, current electronic music as well as elements of contemporary European music. n
