Speaking for the first time in public, Inkosi ya Makhosi M’mbelwa V has asked President Joyce Banda to initiate developments in Mzimba.

M’mbelwa V made the plea during a rally the President held at Mzimba Boma on Thursday.

He said despite the President commissioning construction of the Jenda-Edingeni Road, nothing has taken shape on the ground.

“In the past, a lot of money has been allocated to the [Jenda-Edingeni] road many times but it has never [been] traced.

“But within two years, you have made it possible that the contractor should come on the site to start construction. We feel that that the contractor is very slow. By now he should have constructed at least five kilometres. Please help us, Madam.”

M’mbelwa, who thanked the President for the construction of Jenda Rural Growth Centre, also asked for potable water at the centre.

He also asked for more wards at Edingeni Clinic where he said male and female patients share wards.

“The district council also needs proper offices because the buildings they use now are too old,” he added.

In her speech, President Banda did not comment on M’mbelwa’s development pleas.

She outlined her vision to uplift women who, she said, form the backbone of a family and development in the country.

Crown Prince Mkhosi, according to Ngoni tradition, can now be addressed as Inkosi ya Makhosi M’mbelwa V after the closure of the mourning period for the late M’mbelwa IV which was held last Sunday.
