Malawi Boxing Association (Maba) general secretary Innocent Chakudza has resigned with immediate effect.

Chakudza, who was elected last August and has been in office for six months, cited pressure at his work as the reason behind the decision.

In a telephone interview on Monday from his base in Mchinji where he works as a magistrate, Chakudza confirmed that he has quit his post.

“It is true that I have resigned from my post as of Monday. I have a lot on my plate and I thought the best thing was to resign and focus on my work as a magistrate. It is good to accept when it is too much,” he said.

Chakudza further said he wishes Maba success in its endeavours.

“I love sports and boxing and I might come back in future, but as for now I wish Maba all the best,” he said.

Maba president Justice Katika said he is yet to get official communication from Chakudza.

“As Maba, we have a Whatsapp group and that is where he has posted something to the extent that he has resigned. But, as Maba, we cannot take that seriously until he writes an official communication to us. I won’t say he has resigned until I get that letter,” said Katika.

Chakudza said he is yet to write an official letter.
