Malawi’s top Super League club, Big Bullets FC have appointed their former sweeper Patrick Mabedi as the team’s ambassador in South Africa.

According to Bullets FC general secretary Higger Mkandawire, the former Flames captain will, among other things, help market the team in South Africa as well as look at the welfare of Bullets players joining South African teams.

He said Mabedi has big connections in the Rainbow Nation where he has stayed for more than 14 years and Bullets can benefit a lot working with him.

“He is a respected figure in South African football and can help us establish partnership with teams or some companies that side.

“We have approached him and in principle he has agreed to our proposal. It is now just a matter of making it official with documentation,” said Mkandawire.

He said Mabedi’s other main role will be to help Bullets players get fair deals with South African teams.

“A number of our players have been mistreated by South Africa teams because they had no guidance on their contracts as well as their welfare in general.

“Being someone who played for Kaizer Chiefs for close to nine years, he can help the players negotiate better deals,” said Mkandawire.

Mabedi, who is in the country for a breather, said he has accepted the role.

“Bullets leadership of Malinda Chinyama and Mkandawire is doing a great job in transforming Bullets into a professional team. If we had such leadership the time we had sponsors, the team would have developed a lot,” said Mabedi who played for Bullets in the 1990s before moving to Chiefs in 1998.
