MACRA CLF implementation September
The Malawi Communications and Regulatory Authority (MACRA) has disclosed that it shall commence implementing a new licensing regime under the Converged Licensing Framework (CLF) from 1 September.
MACRA director general Godfrey Itaye disclosed this at a press briefing in Blantyre on Monday.
He said that technological advancement has seen the diminishing of the boundaries between telecommunications and broadcasting services bringing together various Information and Communication Technology (ICT) services, rendering the current licensing framework inflexible to meet the needs of the sector.
Itaye said that from 1 September henceforth, players in the industry will be licensed on four-tier categories which include Network Facilities License, Network Services License, Application Services License and Content Services License.
