Maduka given one game ultimatum

Royal AM have given their Malawian coach John Maduka a one game ultimatum to deliver or face the chop.

This follows the South Africa DStv Premiership outfit’s two losses since the 2021/22 season kicked off two weeks ago.

Maduka: We will get better

Royal AM have lost 1-0 to Swallows FC and 2-1 to Cape Town City under the former Flames captain, after the club bought the top-flight status of Bloemfontein Celtic before the start of the new campaign.

South Africa’s soccerladuma.co.za reported that the club’s management has given Maduka one more match to get a victory for the club or he may have to make way for someone else to step into his role.

“After the international break, Royal AM will host Gavin Hunt’s Chippa United. Chippa have started the season well and are yet to concede after two Premiership matches. Maduka’s men will need to collect maximum points at home to give the coach a chance of keeping his job,” reads the report in part.

Maduka, who was recently spoiled with a BMW X5 by the club, was optimistic that the team will turn the corner, saying opening games are tricky.

“We did not play the game we wanted, but it is the first matches of the league and they are always tricky,” Maduka told SuperSport.com.

“But we know we will get better and come right. We need to have the confidence, then we will be able to play.

“We have ball players, but we could not make five passes [in a row]. In the first games there is a bit of tension, but we will come right.”

Royal AM were playing in National First Division and the purchase of Celtic’s franchise has seen them now taking up the team’s spot in DStv Premiership.

The owners of the club decided to maintain the technical team of the head coach Maduka, assistant coaches Abraham ‘Wire’ Nteo, [Ditheko] Mototo and Simon Gopane.
