Maduka speaks on Mzava’s Celtic future
Malawi national football team (Flames) defender Limbikani Mzava might finally be registered in the current transfer window at South Africa’s Bloemfontein Celtic.
Celtic’s Malawian team manager John Maduka on Tuesday gave an update on Mzava who has not played competitive football at Celtic since June.
“He is still our player and we will decide what to do in this transfer window. We could not register him as he was a minor, but he has now attained the age of 18,” Maduka said Tuesday in a telephone interview from Durban.
Mzava, who sealed a three-year dream from Escom United, could not sign a contract as Fifa rules of players’ status restricts hiring of minors.
Celtic coach Clinton Larsen has since told Free State Stars Times newspaper that he is hunting for capable players to transform the team into championship contenders.
Larsen revealed that two Ghanaian strikers and a Zimbabwean midfielder were expected to pitch for final trials this weekend in Johannesburg.
“The Celtic mentor has already started strengthening the team by enlisting Malawian Under-23 defender Limbikani Mzava and local midfielders Jacky Motshegwa, Roseg Gamildien and Luyanda Hlongwa,” reported www.fstimes.co.za on December 27 2011.
The former Malawi Under-17 captain, Mzava, could not be reached on Tuesday for his comment.
