Mafco FC made it into semi-finals of the Central Region Presidential Initiative on Sports championship after beating Sunset 4-3 in a Group B encounter at Kambiri Lodge in Salima.

Mafco will face Tourism, who beat Ace Pub 8-3 in a Group A fixture.

Simba Stars, from Group A, also made it into the semi-finals after beating Police 8-5. They will face Group B’s Mchengawamoto who beat Parachute Battalion and Salima Technical College 2-0 and 6-1 respectively.

The semi-finals and finals were taking place as we went to press on Sunday.

Two top teams from the region will take part in the national finals.

Central Region beach soccer chairperson Leonard Mazombwe Changa was happy with the level of competition displayed in the contest since it started in February.

This is the first time beach soccer is included in the Presidential tournament.

“The objective of PIS, which is to develop the sports at the grass roots, has been achieved going by the talent exposed during the four weeks of the competition here. I think beach soccer is taking the right direction,” said Changa.
