A combative Mafco Football Club on Saturday reigned supreme over TNM Super League defending champions Nyasa Big Bullets with a 2-0 victory during a preseason friendly at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe.

With attacking and physical game, Mafco managed to expose Bullets weaknesses, especially, in defence and midfield.

Bullets technical team headed by Franco Ndawa, preferred Chiku Kanyenda,  Sankhani Mkandawire,  George Nyirenda and Emmanuel Zoya in defence but the combination seemed porous.

The hosts easily overrun Bullets midfield horses Dave N’gambi,  Dalitso Sailesi,  Jimmy Chikulekule and Fischer Kondowe, who failed to tick. This resulted in few scoring chances being created for Bullets strikers Diverson Mlozi and Aimable Nikiza.

The first goal came 11 minutes before recess. A  foul by Mkandawire in the box resulted into a penalty which Saidi Ntekama converted.

The People’s Team had one shot on target in the entire first half and their struggle continued in the second half despite introducing new signing Muhammad Sulumba and Mussa Manyenje. The two replaced Nikiza and Mlozi respectively.

Former Airborne Rangers forward Joseph Dosa killed the game with a cheeky grounder that bounced over Bullets goalkeeper Owen Chaima into the net.

Ndawa admitted playing second fiddle but said the result is no cause for alarm: “We are preparing the team for the forthcoming season and we are trying different combinations and formations.”

Mafco coach Thomas Maloya expressed delight with the result while his captain Richard Mbulu said the result is an indication of better things to come. n
