South African musical outfit, Mafikizolo, is scheduled to perform in Malawi during the festive season, marking the group’s third performance in the country.

Jointly organised by a South Africa-based music label KCP Entertainment and Malawi’s Fepo Music Entertainment Company, the award-winning group will perform in Lilongwe on December 22 at the Bingu International Convention Centre (Bicc) before wrapping up the tour with a performance at the Robin’s Park in Blantyre the following day.

The tour is dubbed Summer Jam Africa and according to Felina Sakala Nkhata of Fepo Music Entertainment, this is part of establishing themselves on the local entertainment music scene.

“We want to make business brands visible through entertainment. By bringing together diverse music cultures from various nations, we help businesses sell themselves by giving them advertising space during the event. We will also sell video documentary of the event,” said Nkhata.

She added that they are bringing Mafikizolo by public demand. She described the shows as important, saying they will create an opportunity for upcoming artists in Malawi such as Flava and Virus as well as Roy View who will curtain-raise the shows.

Other local artists to perform include Lulu, Piksy and Theo Thomson. They will share the stage with Ambani of the Marry Me fame, Kingsoja, Shumza all from South Africa and Jazzkid from Nigeria.

The organisers said part of the proceeds will be donated to Beautify Malawi (Beam) Trust of  the First Lady Gertrude Mutharika for charity purposes.

Mafizikolo first came to Malawi in 2002 before returning for the 2014 Lake of Stars festival. n
