Minister of Labour Eunice Makangala, who is also MP for Blantyre City Central, on Mothers’ Day delivered a message of hope to widows in Blantyre.

Makangala, who is a member of the Ndirande Kachere CCAP Women’s Guild, encouraged women that being a widow does not mean God has forsaken you.

“To be a widow is not a ticket for us to go wild, doing nasty things. Rather, this should give us the courage to continue being faithful in all we do,” she said, amid choruses of amen! from the women.

Makangala also pledged to give the group K15 000 for soft loans.

Director of the group, Pastor Esmie Daudi, said widows need to be empowered to enable them stand on their own.

“As a group, we need to empower these widows with small loans for zitumbuwa, mandasi and other minor businesses.

“We have a membership contribution of K100 that we use for cheering the sick and comforting those who have lost their loved ones. We also use the money to lend to members of the group to start small businesses to keep us going,” said Daudi.
