Mary Luhanga sustained her good display as she outclassed a field of 18 contestants in the women’s senior category.

Luhanga defeated fellow Mzuzu tennis star Zione Nkhoma 6-0 before silencing Linda Msiska 6-2 in all the two sets played.

Makuluni received K10 000 cash prize for being the champion in the men’s single category.

Luhanga got K9 000 for being the champion in the women’s category.

Linda Msiska received K6 000 for coming out second while the runner-up in the men’s single category Shelifi Juma got K7 000.

In his remarks, Kawandama Hills Plantations manager Evance Nyirenda said his company decided to sponsor the tournament so that the nation has more tennis players.

“We support tennis because they are so proactive in helping the youth to promote tennis. The teenagers have so much potential and just need guidance and support. We hope that other companies will also come and support SBB with equipments and funding,” he said.
