The development comes after The Nation broke the news on September 9 2015 that Malata was set to succeed Ralph Kamoto who has been redeployed back to Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (Mera) as chief executive officer (CEO) barely one year after he was moved from the same post to MRA.

Malata, who becomes the fourth CG to head MRA since 2012 when Lloyd Muhara, now High Court judge, was removed by former president Joyce Banda and replaced with banker John Biziwick who President Peter Mutharika replaced with Kamoto in July last year.

MRA board chairperson Evelyn Mwapasa said in a statement on Thursday Malata will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the authority to advance its mission, including spearheading tax administration reforms.

She said: “Mr. Malata brings to MRA over twenty [20] years experience of operating at top management level in various institutions and industries. A well-exposed, analytical, mature and dedicated leader, Mr. Malata has served as managing consultant at Taxcom Finance Associates and managing director of both Premium Tama Tobacco Limited and Kanengo Tobacco Processors.”
