The comedian said on Friday that the shooting of his first movie, titled A Broken Promise, begins next week.

The 80-minute movie has a cast of 15 actors.

Without disclosing much, Winiko said the film centres around the plight and poverty of a female student. He said the student’s parents had no money to send her to a secondary school where she was selected to until a rich man offered to help on condition that they get married after the girl completes her studies.

“The movie will be shot in Blantyre, Lilongwe and Mangochi. I was supposed to start last week, but the weather was not suitable for shooting,” said Winiko.

He added that this will be the first production by his company, Winiko Theatre Company.

“We have done TV documentaries and comedies; hence, the decision to venture into something new. This will be action-packed and we want Malawians to enjoy the best,” said Winiko.

However, he could not be drawn to disclose names of the actors in the movie, claiming it would be premature to do so now.

“We have well-known characters in the movie. I am talking about people who know how to act,” he said.

The movie is expected to be out by August this year.
