Orange Partners of the People’s Party (PP) on Wednesday donated a wheelchair and assorted items to Kachere Rehabilitation Centre in Malawi’s commercial city, Blantyre.

Speaking when he handed over the items, Blantyre District Orange Partners chairperson Frederick Valani said as a political youth organisation, they want to assist the less-privileged in the country.

“We would like to see the youth not being used by politicians for their gains,” said Valani.

The centre’s rehabilitation services manager Alex Dzinkambani said the hospital, that opened its doors in 1995, serves 40 patients, but currently has only 15 to 20 wheelchairs.

“The hospital also has a non-functioning washing machine apart from numerous challenges it is facing, ranging from water and electricity bills, transport to ferry people after being discharged and salaries for the
staff.
