Malawi’s thearte festival honours martyrs
Martyrs are great people in all aspects of their life. In remembrance of these great sons and daughters, we celebrate their lives.
The National Theatre Association of Malawi (Ntam) has since planned for a Martyrs Theatre Festival to honour fallen heroes. Ntam, through the Southern Region chapter, are organising it.
Actors from the region dub the festival a must-watch, saying Martyrs Day means a lot to Malawi as a nation.
The chapter’s chairperson Lyson Namalomba said five theatre groups will entertain fans at the Blantyre Cultural Centre (BCC) formerly French Cultural Centre.
“Another play will feature best actors from various districts in the region to keep theatre groups active and expose both rural and urban talents in stage plays,” he said.
For Namalomba, preparations are at an advanced stage. “I can say, everything is going on smoothly. All theatre groups listed to perform have confirmed and we are just waiting for the big day,” he said.
Namalomba alluded that the region has a lot of talent despite lack of frequent festivals, which he says affects talent exposure.
“We do not hold frequent festivals because of various reasons, much of them are beyond our control. One of them is that most theatre groups are usually busy with various activities and we rely on special days to hold such events,” he said.
