Blantyre district tuberculosis (TB) officer Catherine Mwapasa Holla says increased cases of TB in the district could be dealt with through civic education and medical check-ups.

Holla said this when Blantyre District Office trained Nancholi Youth Organisation (Nayo) volunteers on Thursday last week.

George Nedi, Nayo communications coordinator said his organisation is implementing a one-year Stepping Stone for the Disadvantaged programme that has many components.

He said components of the organisation include taking ARVs to the doorsteps of the infected and affected persons, feeding child headed families of TB patients.

“At the end the project, we want to see more people accessing ARVs as well as having TB checked. Vulnerable groups also need to have a good diet,” said Nedi.

Holla said some of the signs of TB are feeling too hot, coughing for over two to three weeks, rapid weight loss, loss of appetite, breathlessness, as well as feeling pains in ribs.
