Malawi Government has accredited Lilongwe-based Exploits University as an institution of higher learning in the country.

According to a letter from the director of higher learning in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Professor Dixie Banda, dated July 16 2012, the approval follows a request the institute made to government to be assessed.

“Following a series of meetings which the Credential and Evaluation Committee( CEC) held to determine whether or not you meet the minimum requirements befitting an institution of higher learning, government has been satisfied and has decided to approve you as such,” reads part of the letter.

The letter adds that the recognition and accreditation is subject to review by National Council of Higher Education to ensure that the institution is improving on its standards.

Exploits University registrar Benjamin Sambiri said this is a good decision because Exploits will now be regarded as one of the best universities in the world.

“We have been waiting for this decision for over two years and whatever government was advising us to do for us to get this accreditation, we were doing it fully. Our lecturers are very qualified and we have a dynamic council and senate which have the welfare of our students at heart,” he said.

Exploits University opened its doors in 2010 and has about 500 students. Currently, enrolment is in progress for the July 2012 intake.
