According to a communique released by the Golf Union of Malawi (GUoM) on Monday, on the last day of the games on Thursday, Malawi had won only three out of eight matches, thereby earning three points, pushing their tally to 12 points.

Hosts South Africa retained the championship with 23 points while Zimbabwe (19 points), were their runners-up on 19 points.

Namibia, Swaziland and Kenya finished third, fourth and fifth respectively. Mozambique anchored the table with five points.

Malawi coach Chris Kachiguma and one of the key players Paul Chidale attributed it to poor performance in individual games.

Said Kachiguma: “The weather affected our play on the very first day as it was very chill. But we also have problems in individual games and we need to work hard in that aspect.”

The coach played down suggestion that Malawi slumped two places this year, arguing that there were two more teams this year, therefore, the position was more or less the same.
