FAM president Walter Nyamilandu has said Malawi’s football fraternity is now united.
Nyamilandu said this during FAM’s annual general meeting (AGM) held at Malawi Sun Hotel in Blantyre on Saturday.
“It is good to see that Malawi football is healing from the wounds of hatred, remorse, jealousy and personal grudges. You will recall that the last elective congress which was held in Salima was characterised by infighting and dirty accusations, which was not good for the game.
“However, one year down the line, the transformation that we have undergone in terms of mending fences and burying the hatchet is phenomenal,” said Nyamilandu.
He also commended the spirit of forgiveness and tolerance as it leads to a good working environment.
“I must say that this is a sign that the hand of the Lord is at work, having touched all those that were either aggrieved or offended,” he said.
Super League of Malawi (Sulom) president Innocent Bottomani concurred with Nyamilandu that the tense atmosphere that characterised the football fraternity prior to last year’s elections had disappeared.
“The situation was indeed not healthy for the development of our game. It is good to see that we are now moving in the same direction in the quest to develop our game.
“Of course, we are all human and we are bound to have different views, but we need to have the spirit of tolerance if we are to make strides in the development of our game and I should say for the past one year, we have worked as a united family,” said Bottomani.
Last year’s elections were characterised by sickening infighting between two camps, one led by Nyamilandu and the other by his rival Henry Chibowa.
