Malawi golf team struggles in singles

The Malawi national golf team struggled in a singles match on the opening day of the Zone VI Golf Championship in Windhoek, Namibia, after managing only two wins out of eight matches.

According to Golf Union of Malawi (GoUM) general secretary Hudson Kantwanje, Paul Chidale beat a Swazi player while Kondwani Mphulla defeated a Namibian opponent.

Gabriel Kambale and Adam Sailesi drew with their Mozambique and Zimbabwe opponents respectively while the other players Victor Kachepatsonga, Stanford Mayuni, Ridger Mapepa and Gift Landisi lost.

South Africa, who are the defending champions, dominated the singles as they won all their eight games.

As we went to press, Malawi was playing two games in the foursome and better ball formats.

The pairing for Wednesday’s games was Paul Chidale and Stanford Mayuni, Gabriel Kambale and Victor Kachepatsonga, Adam Sailesi and Kondwani Mphulla and Rodger Mapepa and Gabriel Kambalame. Gift Landis was on bye on Wednesday.

The competition ends Friday.
