Malawi gospel outfit Marvellous Deeds’ lessons from 2012

Malawi’s gospel group Marvellous Deeds describes the just-ended year a learning point on what to offer the market this year.

The group says the year was tough for them in terms of music sales and patronage at music shows.

Commenting through a Facebook interview recently, one of the members of the group, Francis Phiri, said his group did not witness good patronage during shows and they only sold about 10 000 copies of their last release—Muli Nane Cholinga.

“Music sales were also poor. 2012 did not only require one to be popular to make good sales. Those who sold well had good albums. That is why we managed to sell about 10 000 copies. It was a tough year because we believe we could have sold more than this,” says Phiri.

He says his group, which also has Abel Sanena and Weston Chipwaila, has learnt a lesson to compile only the cream of their compositions in the next album.

Phiri says the new album is titled Sanathane Nane and will hit the market early next month. It is coming after Muli Nane Cholinga and Matamando albums.

“Our new  album  exposes a new dimension and there is a lot of   maturity in both compositions and instrumentation,” said Phiri.
