Malawi Vice-President Khumbo Kachali has said the Joyce Banda administration will continue to foster a good working relationship with the religious community as they are government’s partners in development.

Kachali was speaking on Sunday at the close of the Muslim annual Ijitima prayers at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre. The prayers were held under the theme ‘Stock taking of Islam in Malawi’.

Said Kachali: “Your prayers are making this government succeed in all its efforts. This is why our administration will keep supporting Muslims because we believe that God showers blessings to a nation when religious people kneel down and pray.”

He said the President acknowledges the good work the Muslim community is doing; hence, she includes six Muslims in her Cabinet.

Kachali applauded the Ijtima organising committee for inviting former Tanzanian president Ali Hassan Mwinyi.

He assured the Muslim community that the Banda administration will look into issues raised in a communiqué released at the end of the prayers, observing that most issues are in line with government’s initiatives.

Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) chairperson Sheikh Idrissah Muhamad commended the Banda administration for its style of leadership. (With additional reporting by the Malawi News Agency).
