Malawi has commended Egypt for fostering strong bilateral relations and national development.

Deputy Minister of Defence Chipiliro Mpinganjira said this during the commemoration of the Egyptian revolution held at Egyptian Ambassador Hassan Shawky’s residence in Lilongwe recently.

He said Egypt’s support to various sectors has boosted the country’s socio-economic endeavours.

Mpinganjira: We support each other

Mpinganjira cited technical and financial support towards security, agriculture, diplomacy, education and youth empowerment as some of the areas where Egypt contributes to Malawi.

He said: “Malawi and Egypt continue to cooperate in trade and investment, information, disaster relief management, culture, capacity building, defence and security; health and agriculture, water and irrigation, just to mention a few. We also support each other’s candidatures to international organisations.”

Mpinganjira also commended the Government of Egypt for the support it renders to Malawi in human resource training in various areas, such as diplomacy.

On his part, Shawky said the two countries have maintained diplomatic relations for decades. He also welcomed Malawi’s support to Egypt in various international forums, saying Egypt will use its current leadership of the African Union to support African countries such as Malawi in various fields.
