Mzuzu City Member of Parliament Professor Peter Mwanza says primary school open day celebrations need to be taken seriously by parents and the corporate world because that is the platform where pupils voice out their problems.

Mwanza made the remarks in Mzuzu on Saturday at Viyele Primary School open day held under the theme “Quality education a key to success”.

He said primary school pupils face a lot of problems, including lack of teachers and inadequate learning materials. He said it is during such functions that parents and the corporate world come to appreciate these problems.

He also emphasised the importance of primary education, saying it is crucial for development, hence need support from both government and the corporate world.

Said Mwanza: “Developed nations have a vibrant economy because they have high standards of education. It is through this realisation that budget allocation for the education sector is the largest in the current national budget.”

He, therefore, called on the corporate world to help solve some of the problems rocking primary schools to fulfil their corporate social responsibility than leave the problems to government alone.
