“The road lies on the border of the two countries and we all benefit from it. We cannot conduct our businesses here without Mozambicans getting involved.  I am happy that we have agreed to work together for the benefit of the two countries,” he said.

Ntcheu district commissioner (DC) Smart Gwedemula urged his Mozambican counterpart to sensitise his communities to the project .

“I would like to urge our Mozambican delegates to ensure that those along the border are aware of the project so that there is a good relationship between the contractor and communities,” said Gwedemula.

Speaking during the same meeting, Tsangano DC Eugenio Muchanga assured Malawi of his communities’ support during the construction.

He pledged to offer some land within the road reserve from the Mozambican side if the road happens to pass through part of his country. n
