The People’s Transformation Party (Petra) president Kamuzu Chibambo says Malawi needs urgent economic liberation.

Chibambo made the observation in Zomba on Friday during a public lecture he delivered at the Chancellor College’s Great Hall.

He said there is need to turn the natural wealth of this country to meet the social-economic challenges of the poor masses.

Chibambo pronounced that Malawians should rise and embrace the third liberation movement as he recalled that the first liberation took place in 1964 from the colonial rule before the second one in 1994 when Malawi politics incorporated multiparty democracy.

He said his party envisions at promoting health sector, education and trade.

“Our vision is to create an economically independent Malawi that will be a manufacturing country. In other words, our country should be an exporting instead of an importing one. At the moment, our country is considered as a dumping country, for instance, some of the goods from foreign countries are of low quality for the reason that most Malawian industries stopped operating some time back,” he said.

Academically, Chibambo disclosed that his government will introduce a subject on Investment and Entrepreneurship to prepare Malawian youths for economic independence at a tender stage.
