Malawi Queens secure another friendly

The Malawi national netball team, the Queens, have secured another friendly against England on top of the ones against Australia and New Zealand ahead of the Fast5 Tournament in New Zealand in November.

The Queens will play Australia on November 6, England on November 7 and New Zealand on November 8 while the tournament runs between November 9 and 11.

Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) general secretary Helene Mpinganjira said in an interview on Wednesday England made the request for the friendly.

“It is an opportunity for our team to play such top three warm-up games before the games start. We rarely play against such teams in friendlies,” said Mpinganjira.

She also said the friendly games will give the Queens time to practise the tournament’s extraordinary rules in a competitive scenario.

Among the new rules, teams will be fielding five players instead of the normal seven. They will also be allowed to score from outside the scoring circle.

The queens went into camp last week in preparations for the New Zealand trip.
