Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) on Tuesday said the Malawi Queens will start camp training today ahead of Test Series matches in Australia and the Fast5 World Netball Series in New Zealand next month.

NAM president Rosy Chinunda told The Nation that interim head coach Griffin Saenda and his assistant Mary Waya have been ordered to call the players into camp by end of the day today.

The Queens will have two test series matches against Australian Diamonds on October 19 and 22nd, before proceeding to New Zealand for other friendly games against hosts Silver Ferns, who are the Fast5 defending champions, on October 24, 27 and 31.

The Fast5 World Series matches will take place in New Zealand early November.

“We want the players to spend at least a month in camp and we believe this is the right time to prepare the girls for the international games,” said Chinunda.

Organisers of the international events have offered return air tickets, accommodation and food for the Queens while NAM will be responsible for visa and training expenses.

Chinunda, however, insisted that Saenda and Waya have been hired specifically for the imminent international games as they are yet to agree with government on when and how they would engage a permanent coaching panel.
