South Africa’s singing sensation Hip Hop Pantsula popularly known as HHP has deplored lack of pure local music in Malawi.

Said HHP: “There is no distinct music in Zambia, Malawi and Botswana. In each of these countries, music sounds like that from South Africa and Nigeria. This has got a negative effect on the kind of music each country produces—we might end up not having a clear identification of Malawi music, for instance.”

While in Malawi, the Daraja Crew consisting of HHP and colleague DJ Zondi, had a recording

session with artists such as Q Malewezi and D1. The Daraja Crew is hoping to come to record a DVD of the songs as well as launch the Daraja walk video.

The two hailed Malawi’s hospitality saying it is the best country they have been to.

The participants are walking the African continent to raise awareness of the importance of a unified continent. The two have walked from Botswana through Zambia, Malawi and Tanzania with their journey ending in Kenya in November.

“We have been to three countries thus Botswana Zambia and Malawi. From there we will be heading to Tanzania. But I must say, out of these countries we have been to, Malawi stands out. Malawi is best in terms of hospitality, friendliness and scenery among others,” he said.

HHP added that there are a couple of unique things with Malawi.

“The landscape, delicacies like Mbewa (Mice) which I tasted. The flavour is like that of stockfish we eat in South Africa. My stay in Malawi was an awesome experience. I will never forget,” he said.
