Malawi will host the 2016 African Draughts Championships thanks to the outstanding performance of Enock Banda at the World Championships in St. Petersburg, Russia last week.
According to the Association of Draughts in Malawi (Adma) general secretary Suzgo Nkhoma, the World Draughts Federation (WDF) has automatically of the continental event in September 2016 after Banda emerged as Africa’s best player during the global showpiece.
“It is a practice of the world draughts governing body to give hosting rights of the African championships to a country that produces the continent’s best player during the global competition because they believe that such country has good players,” Nkhoma said.
“We are happy that on his first appearance in the international championships, Banda has made us proud by bringing the continental event right on our doorstep.”
Nkhoma said during the African Championships, almost all the expenses will be paid for by WDF.
