Malawi to improve Nacit operations

The Ministry of Information and Civic Education says the enhancement of information and communication technology (ICT) in colleges and schools will help boost the country’s economy.

Minister responsible Moses Kunkuyu made these remarks during a familiarisation tour of National College of Information Technology (Nacit) on Monday in Blantyre.

Said Kunkuyu: “During the Africa Business Week in Frankfurt, Germany, Malawi was admired for the deep penetration of ICT into rural areas and there are investors who want to come and explore the market.”

He said problems Nacit is facing will be looked into since ICT falls in the Economy Recovery Plan (ERP) for Malawi.

“ICT is important and training of specialists in this field will enhance the economy because most sectors like agriculture and energy are becoming digitised in their operations. In this case, Malawi should not lag behind,” he said.

Nacit assistant director Kayunga Mnyenyembe said since the college’s opening in 1978, little has been done to improve the infrastructure.
