Malawi urges private sector to up investment levels

Malawi’s Minister of Industry and Trade Sosten Gwengwe says government will continue supporting the growth of the private sector, arguing that well-functioning businesses are catalysts for development.

He said this on Friday in Lilongwe at the launch of NutriGlucoPhala, an instant nutritious porridge manufactured by Universal Industries.

The NutriGlucoPhala is prepared from high quality raw materials, precooked and well balanced to meet the nutritional and economic needs of every family, according to Universal Industries.

“It is government’s expectation that the private sector will continue to increase investment levels in various endeavours like Universal Industries has done and diversify product lines to expand and satisfy market base and its tastes,” the minister said.

Gwengwe said government will continue to support the private sector by ensuring that there is quality infrastructure that will result from current efforts that have been put in place to rejuvenate such institutions as the Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS).

Universal Industries chairperson and managing director Dinshi Amin said NutriGlucoPhala is made from a combination of maize, soya and wheat flour and other wholesome ingredients.

“This delicious product is fortified with vitamins and minerals to provide a nutritious breakfast food and an energy sustaining meal, thus helping to combact macro and micro nutrients deficiencies,” he said.

Amin said apart from having vitamins, the product is nutritious, tasty, quick and easy to prepare, value for money, good for patients and elderly, and convenient.

“This porridge saves energy, fuel and time because it can be instantly prepared by just adding hot water. It is also a great supplement as a nutritionally balanced meal for school children, especially in boarding schools,” he said.

The product is packaged in 300 grammes jar, 500 grammes carton, one kilogramme (kg) jar and two and five kg bags.
