National women football star Chrissy Kasiya scored the winning goal for her South African side Kanatala Ladies to beat Yola Sisters 3-2 on Sunday.

Kasiya, 21, a left-winger, joined Kanatala last month alongside Loveness Nyakamera, 22.

She secured glory for her side with a long range shot in the 74th minute at Peters Magogo Stadium for them to lead the 16-team log for Pretoria Province with 35 points. For their feat, they took home R50 000 (K1.75 million).

Lady Devils also completed their provincial fixtures on 35 points after beating Flaven Stars 2-1, but they have taken the second position due to their inferior goal aggregate.

Since joining the South African club, Kasiya has featured in six league games and scored twice while Nyakamera has scored three goals in four matches.

“We are happy that the girls have quickly adapted to South African fast football and they are able to score crucial goals. We hope they will continue with the good work so as to open doors for more Malawian women footballers to taste professional football,” said Prince Jere, facilitator of deals for Kasiya and Nyakamera.

Kasiya, formerly of Ntopwa Super Queens, is yet to sign a contract as officials are divided on whether to give her a long-term deal or engage her on loan.

But Nyakamera, who played for King’s Ladies FC, Zomba City Queens and Blantyre Zero before trekking to South Africa, is on a year-long contract with the club.

Kasiya’s twin sister, Mwayi, is on a three-month contract at another South African club Mary’s FC.

Meanwhile, former King’s Ladies striker Catherine Ntonga has made her first impression during her trials at the Zimbabwean Super League side Auckland Queens. She scored the lone goal when her side beat Conduit Academy FC 1-0 in a friendly match.

Conduit featured their Malawian captain Chisomo Kazisonga, who was Malawi’s first women football export.

However, former Dreams United striker Eliza Chiphang’ombe is struggling with her fitness at Auckland Queens where she remains with a week on trials together with Ntonga.

The new season for Zimbabwe Super League starts on December 20.
