Malawian youths will meet on Wednesday in the capital, Lilongwe, on the current economic challenges facing Malawi and how it affects them.

National coordinator for the Youth Consultative Forum (YCF) Edward Chileka-Banda said on Monday the conference will be held at the Baptist Theological Seminary under the theme Engaging the Youth to Accelerate Economic Recovery.

Said Banda: “The conference has been organised to provide young leaders, professionals, farmers and entrepreneurs a platform to reflect on the current economic challenges facing Malawi and assess the impact of the economic meltdown on young people.

“It will also discuss measures that should be put in place to cushion young people from the effects of the economic recession and explore ways how young people can meaningfully participate in accelerating efforts to recover the economy for a prosperous future for all citizens of Malawi,” he said.

Banda said the conference is expected to increase attention to economic challenges facing the youth and their participation in efforts to recover the economy.

YCF is a youth movement comprising individual youths, youth leaders, young professionals, student unions, youth organisations, networks, young women movements and other actors in youth work. It is set to promote meaningful youth participation in development through collective voice and action focusing on youth development, empowerment and policy dialogue.
