Malawi High Commission first secretary Grandford Banda, has urged church groups in Malawi and Zambia to promote exchange visits and to use fellowship for joint fervent prayers asking God to solve the socio-economic woes dogging the two countries.

Banda was speaking when he received a 50-member delegation comprising Tembenukani Women’s Choir and officials from M’buka Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) congregation in Lilongwe during a courtesy call at the Malawi High Commission in Lusaka, Zambia on Friday.

malawi_zambia“We greatly value these exchange visits, which enhance our strong and historic bilateral relations. But I appeal to you to also use fellowship to organise fervent prayers through which God should be asked to solve the problems facing the leadership and the people in our two countries,” stated Banda, who is in charge of economic affairs at the Malawi High Commission.

In response, the delegation’s team leader, the Reverend David Zembeni, who pastors M’buka Church, said the Zambia visit was an eye-opener, as it showed deep Christian love from their hosts and it exposed new areas of collaboration in church operations.

The High Commission hall that hosted the meeting reflected the government’s recent emphasis on aggressive marketing in foreign missions, as an array of Malawi’s top products—ranging from orange squash to wrap—around cloths (zitenje)— were strategically displayed for visitors.
