Malawi’s model back to fashion fold

The flower that failed has sprung back to life with Nancy Chavi relaunching her NC clothing line in Malawi’s capital, Lilongwe, last week.

The model, who represented the country in the 2009 Face of Africa contest, reappeared with her dazzling set of eight vintage and retro designs during Lilly Alfonso’s farewell gala at Sunbird Capital last Saturday.

She restyled her journey in the fast-rising fashion industry with blends of the spectacular oldies and modern designs that last made headlines in December 2010.

“I thank Lilly for giving me this opportunity to re-establish myself on the fashion market. I can assure my fans that I am back for good. I was occupied by modelling and lots of stuff on the entertainment scene,” said Chavi in an interview.

Modelling remains a road less travelled in Malawi, while fashion is on the rise with the likes of Alfonso, Khalidwe Wear, Nzika, Cathy Kamthunzi and Chiccu Gondwe making headlines.

Chavi feels she is right to rejoin the fashion designers like the biblical prodigal son. Her creations target those aged between 16 and 30.
